Art Committee Exhibits
Art in the Sanctuary and in the Fireside Room
Art exhibits in the sanctuary and in the Fireside Room in Hewett Centre are curated by the Art Committee. The art on exhibit changes as often as every month. Details of currently scheduled exhibits are listed below when they are available.

It is a long-established policy not to list the price with a piece of art. So if you are interested, check out the price list and artist bio in the back corner of the sanctuary or on the wall in the Fireside Room. Please feel free to leave a comment for the artist.

The Art Committee meets on the second Sunday of the month at 12:30 pm. All are welcome. Check with the office for location.

Portrait of Harold Douglas Brown
In 2009 the board purchased this portrait of Harold Douglas Brown, former Music Director Emeritus, who died in January 2011. The portrait, by local artist Joseph Gabanek, is hanging in the Fireside Room.

Harold was a well-respected accompanist and singing coach in Vancouver, valued for his sensitivity and insight. He was a leading ensemble pianist, accompanied well-known singers and musicians, appeared on radio and television. He toured with various chamber groups, was accompanist for the BC Music Festival, Vancouver Opera, TUTS (Theatre Under the Stars), and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.

Harold joined the church in 1973 and shortly thereafter was appointed Music and Choir Director. He retired in June, 2007, but continued to play once a week into his 90's. He was always a magician on the piano.
